Plant based meat options in Japan
I was curious about alternatives to animal meat available in Japan, so I looked up what's available. I'm documenting this mainly for myself, but sharing it in case it helps you, dear stranger on the internet.
As far as I can tell, no lab-grown meat is commercially available yet here, so I can only try plant based ones. Some policy guidelines are being drafted and cultured meat was demoed at Osaka 2025 (hence the expo's logo? 🙃), so it might arrive eventually.

[1] The mince is not sold to consumers online, but seems available in fancy supermarkets like National Azabu. The pork isn't shown on their website anymore, but sold through third parties like this one or rakuten for the pork
Other options I checked:
- Next Meats' had some appetizing options but neither their shop nor their amazon store has anything available, and they haven't published anything since 2023, so they might have shut down?
- MUJI also sold some soy meat in the past, but not anymore. Too bad, from reviews it looked decent
